Regenerative Medicine in Aesthetics: What Does It Mean for Your Skin?

Regenerative medicine is an exciting and rapidly developing area of healthcare. In simple terms, it focuses on helping the body repair, restore and renew its own tissues. Within aesthetic medicine, regenerative treatments are used to improve skin quality, hydration, elasticity, firmness and structure by supporting natural biological processes such as collagen production, tissue repair and cellular signalling.
At The Medical Skin Clinic, our approach to regenerative aesthetics is subtle, medically led and focused on helping patients look healthier and fresher — not overfilled or artificially altered.
Unlike traditional aesthetic treatments that may simply relax muscles or add volume, regenerative treatments aim to work with the skin and underlying tissues. They may help improve crepey skin, fine lines, laxity, dullness, dehydration, loss of firmness and early facial ageing.
What is regenerative aesthetic medicine?
Regenerative aesthetic medicine uses injectable or skin-supporting treatments that encourage the body’s own repair mechanisms. These treatments may use substances such as hyaluronic acid, amino acids, polynucleotides, collagen-stimulating particles or platelet-rich plasma.
Many of these treatments are described as biostimulators or skin remodelling treatments. This means they are not just placed into the skin to create a temporary effect; they are designed to stimulate a biological response over time.
Depending on the treatment, regenerative aesthetics may help to:
improve skin hydration and glow
support collagen and elastin production
improve firmness and elasticity
soften fine lines and crepey texture
improve skin quality around delicate areas such as the eyes, neck or lower face
restore subtle structure where ageing has caused tissue thinning or laxity
support natural-looking facial rejuvenation
Results are usually gradual and build over several weeks, as the skin responds and remodels.

Regenerative treatments currently available at The Medical Skin Clinic
Profhilo
Profhilo is one of the best-known injectable skin remodelling treatments. It contains a high concentration of stabilised hyaluronic acid and is designed to spread within the skin, improving hydration and supporting skin quality rather than adding volume like a traditional filler. IBSA describes Profhilo products as being based on high- and low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid using NAHYCO® technology.
Profhilo is often suitable for patients who feel their skin has become thinner, duller, less elastic or more crepey with age. It is commonly used on areas such as the face, neck, décolletage and hands.
It can be a good option for patients who want a refreshed, hydrated appearance without changing their facial shape.
DermaFocus Polynucleotides
Polynucleotides are one of the newer and most talked-about developments in regenerative aesthetics. These injectable treatments use purified DNA fragments that act as biostimulators, helping to support skin repair, hydration and tissue quality. DermaFocus specialises in regenerative aesthetics and distributes polynucleotide treatments within the UK aesthetic sector.
Polynucleotides are often used for delicate or difficult-to-treat areas, such as the under-eye area, where skin can be thin, crepey or tired-looking. They may also be used to improve overall skin quality, texture and resilience.
At The Medical Skin Clinic, DermaFocus Polynucleotides may be considered for patients looking for a regenerative approach to skin ageing, particularly where the aim is improved skin health rather than obvious volume.
Profhilo Structura
Profhilo Structura is different from traditional Profhilo. It is designed to support facial treatment where ageing has affected the superficial fat compartments of the face. IBSA states that Profhilo Structura is indicated for facial treatment and restoring adipose tissue, using stabilised hybrid cooperative complexes of high- and low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid.
As we age, changes do not only occur in the skin. Facial fat pads can shrink, descend or lose support, contributing to hollowness, heaviness, jowling or a tired appearance. Profhilo Structura is designed to work in this deeper structural space, supporting a more lifted and refreshed appearance while still remaining within the regenerative treatment category.
It may be suitable for patients who are beginning to notice facial laxity or loss of support but do not necessarily want traditional volumising filler.

Sunekos
Sunekos is an injectable treatment that combines hyaluronic acid with a specific amino acid formulation. The Sunekos product information describes it as supporting the extracellular matrix and elastin production.
The extracellular matrix is the supportive environment around skin cells. It plays an important role in skin firmness, elasticity, hydration and repair. By supporting this environment, Sunekos aims to improve skin quality from within.
Sunekos may be considered for patients with fine lines, mild skin laxity, crepey skin, dehydration or textural changes. It is often used for the face, neck, décolletage and under-eye area, depending on clinical suitability.
Ellansé
Ellansé is a collagen-stimulating dermal filler. Unlike standard hyaluronic acid fillers, it contains polycaprolactone microspheres suspended in a gel carrier. Ellansé describes its treatment as providing both immediate volume and longer-term collagen stimulation.
This means Ellansé can offer a dual effect: some immediate correction, followed by gradual improvement as the body produces new collagen around the treatment area.
It may be suitable for patients who need more structural support, contouring or facial rejuvenation but still want a treatment that encourages collagen production over time. Because it is longer-lasting and collagen-stimulating, careful patient selection and precise medical assessment are essential.
HArmonyCa
HArmonyCa is a hybrid injectable treatment combining hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxyapatite. The official HArmonyCa UK information describes it as a dual-action facial injectable using HA and CaHA to address signs of facial ageing.
The hyaluronic acid component provides an immediate lifting or smoothing effect, while calcium hydroxyapatite acts as a biostimulator, encouraging collagen production over time.
HArmonyCa may be suitable for patients who want subtle lifting, improved firmness and skin quality, particularly in areas where facial laxity is starting to appear.
New regenerative treatments coming soon
The Medical Skin Clinic will also soon be offering advanced RegenLab treatments, including RegenLab PRP, PRP + HA and bio-filler.
RegenLab PRP
PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, uses a small sample of the patient’s own blood. The blood is processed to concentrate the platelets, which contain growth factors involved in tissue repair and healing. RegenLab describes RegenPRP™ as a platelet-rich plasma treatment prepared from the patient’s own blood, used to enhance tissue regeneration.
In aesthetics, PRP is commonly used to support skin quality, glow, texture, fine lines and sometimes hair restoration. Because it uses the patient’s own blood components, it is often appealing to those who prefer an autologous treatment — meaning it comes from their own body.

RegenLab PRP + HA
PRP + HA combines platelet-rich plasma with hyaluronic acid. RegenLab describes RegenPRP™-HA as combining PRP and hyaluronic acid to improve tissue regeneration and healing.
This approach brings together two regenerative principles: the growth-factor activity of PRP and the hydrating, tissue-supporting properties of hyaluronic acid. It may be suitable for patients who want improved hydration, glow, elasticity and skin quality with a regenerative focus.
Bio-filler
Bio-filler is another autologous regenerative treatment, created using the patient’s own blood-derived plasma. It is processed into a gel-like consistency and can be used to provide very soft, natural-looking support while also delivering the regenerative properties associated with plasma-based treatment.
Bio-filler is not the same as traditional dermal filler. It is generally softer and more biological in nature, making it potentially useful for patients who want subtle improvement rather than stronger contouring or volumisation.
How are regenerative treatments different from traditional fillers?
Traditional fillers are often used to replace lost volume, contour facial features or soften deeper lines. Regenerative treatments, by contrast, are usually focused on improving the quality and behaviour of the skin and tissues.
Some treatments, such as Ellansé and HArmonyCa, sit between these categories because they provide immediate structural support while also stimulating collagen production.
The right choice depends on the patient’s anatomy, skin quality, age-related changes, treatment goals and medical history. In many cases, the best results come from a carefully planned combination approach rather than a single treatment.
Who may benefit from regenerative aesthetic treatments?
Regenerative treatments may be suitable for patients who are noticing:
dull, tired or dehydrated skin
fine lines and crepey texture
reduced elasticity
thinning skin
under-eye skin changes
mild to moderate laxity
early jowling or loss of facial support
loss of firmness after weight change, stress or ageing
a desire for natural-looking rejuvenation without looking “done”
These treatments are also popular with patients who want to take a preventative or skin-health-focused approach to ageing.
Are regenerative treatments safe?
When carried out by appropriately trained medical professionals, regenerative treatments can be a safe and effective part of an aesthetic treatment plan. However, as with all injectable procedures, they are not risk-free.
Possible side effects may include redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, small lumps, infection, inflammation or vascular complications, depending on the treatment used and the area treated. Some treatments are not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for patients with certain medical conditions, allergies, autoimmune conditions or active skin infections.
At The Medical Skin Clinic, every patient has a consultation before treatment. This allows us to assess your skin, discuss your goals, review your medical history and recommend the safest and most appropriate options.
